The route
There are two main ways south. Carriers either run I-5 through Portland and California's Central Valley and then I-10 east from Los Angeles, or take I-84 and I-15 through Boise, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. Seattle to Phoenix is 1,315 miles.
Both routes cross mountains. Snow on the Siskiyou Pass in southern Oregon or in the Blue Mountains on I-84 can hold a truck for a day in winter. Spokane pickups usually head south on US-395 to meet I-84.
When to book
Southbound demand peaks from October through January: Seattle to Phoenix is about $1,670 for a November pickup and $1,520 in April. If you can leave in September, before the passes see snow, it costs about $1,525.
Good to know
If you're becoming an Arizona resident rather than spending the winter, register as soon as you qualify; Arizona doesn't give a grace period. Cars in the Phoenix and Tucson areas may need an emissions test before registration.
Questions about Washington to Arizona car shipping
How long does it take to ship a car from Seattle to Phoenix?
About 3–5 days after pickup. Mountain weather in winter can add a day.
Which route will my car take?
The driver chooses based on weather and the other cars on the truck. In winter, the I-5 route through California is often the more reliable choice.
Can you deliver to an RV resort or 55-plus community?
Yes. Share the community's rules for large trucks when you book. If a full-size carrier can't enter, the driver meets you at the entrance.
