The route
Most carriers take I-10 west from Phoenix through Quartzsite and Blythe and across the desert to the Inland Empire and Los Angeles, 421 miles. San Diego deliveries take AZ-85 south to I-8 at Gila Bend, then run through Yuma and over the mountains east of San Diego.
Bay Area and Sacramento deliveries continue up I-5 from Los Angeles, or go I-40 and CA-58 through Bakersfield to the Central Valley.
When to book
Northern California deliveries cost more in spring, when Arizona's winter residents head north: Scottsdale to San Francisco is about $1,365 in April and $1,140 in November. Phoenix to Los Angeles follows the summer moving calendar instead: about $960 in July and $905 in February.
Good to know
California gives new residents 20 days to register after becoming a resident or taking a job in the state, and every car registered there has to meet California's emission requirements. Plan on a smog check and an in-person vehicle verification at the DMV.

Questions about Arizona to California car shipping
How long does it take to ship a car from Arizona to California?
About 1–3 days after pickup for Phoenix to Los Angeles, and 2–4 days for Scottsdale to San Francisco.
Can you deliver in beach neighborhoods with tight streets?
Yes. In places like Venice, Santa Monica or Pacific Beach, the driver usually meets you on a wider street nearby, since a full-size carrier can't fit on most walk streets and alleys.
Do you pick up in Yuma or Flagstaff?
Yes. Both are served, with an added charge for the distance from the main carrier routes: about $150 for Yuma and $75 for Flagstaff.
